5 Steps to Get Out of Your Mindset Funk and Start Thriving

If you’re currently feeling stuck in a mindset funk and unproductive in your business, then you’re in the right place. It’s natural to go through cycles of feeling uninspired and unproductive and beating ourselves up about it. We’re taught that if we want our business to thrive we have to work non-stop, right?

That’s not always true, honey.

I believe in building a business through the power of intention rather than grinding away until you burn out. We’re magical humans, not machines. Our minds and our worlds are complex and we need to nurture the change. So start getting excited, because I have 5 steps that will help you feel great while also thriving in your business.

1. Commit to working on your mindset

To be completely transparent with you, the main reason you are in your current funk, as I like to call it, comes down to your mindset. The first step is grasping that you’ve lost control of your thoughts and owning that truth. But the good news is, you also have the power to change your reality and get out of your mindset funk.

Now, it’s time to say a little affirmation and committing to changing.

I, [insert name here] commit to working on my mindset and feel deeply proud of the business I am creating.

Remember that there is no time limit or expectation to your transition period. Take a day, a week or a month away from your business if you feel the need. Focus on taking care of yourself and strengthening your mindset before anything else. Everything will feel more aligned when you come back as your best self.

2. Make journaling your friend

Once you have made your commitment, this is where the hard work comes in. Grab a cute notebook or scraps of paper and write to your hearts content. I can’t even begin to tell you how therapeutic and healing journaling can be. Simply allow these pages to be your safe space. No judgements, no criticism, no lies. You are going to have to be fully honest with yourself and explore those dark spaces in your mind. Also, you’re going to have negative feelings come up, but let them be present and you will start to heal.

Here are some journaling prompts to get you started:

  • How do I feel?
  • Why do I feel this way?
  • What are my biggest fears?
  • Is there a way to change how I am feeling?
  • What do I want in life?
  • Who do I want to be?
  • What do I want my business to look like?
  • What type of leader do I want to be?
  • Do I know my goals and aspirations?
  • How can I get there?
  • Whats currently stopping me?

3. Gaining clarity and writing goals

Now that you have a deeper understanding of how you feel, this is the fun part. Yes, you can exhale now because the hard stuff is over.

One of the biggest reasons as to why you have felt unproductive and unmotivated is because somewhere along the road your clarity got a bit hazy. How can we be productive if we are unsure about the specifics of what we want?

You can do this in any way that feels natural to you, but here are some examples:

  • Daydream about living your best life
What will you be like? What will you have? How will you make a difference? Who will be there with you? Get very detail oriented. You are the creator of this daydream – if you want to be working in a new city with a person you havent met yet, then great! Dream big and don’t hold anything back.

  • Write about living your best life
The same concept as before, just write it down and deeply feel how it would feel to have all of those things become your reality. Every sensation in your body and mind needs to believe this will truly happen.

  • Write a goals list
Think about what you want to achieve, have, be or do and write them down in the form of 10 life and business goals. How do these tie in together? Next, create smaller actionable steps and timeframes to help keep you accountable for achieving them. Personal development mogul, Rachel Hollis, goes into depth about creating a shame-free plan for your goals in her book Girl, Stop Apologizing.

  • Create a vision board
Get creative! Find beautiful images that inspire you on Pinterest and collect all of them that make you feel amazing. By seeing other people’s visions, it’s another great way of figuring out what you want. You can print them out to create a vision board and hang in your office or save as your desktop/mobile background. Put it somewhere where you will see it regularly and it can remind you of your goals.

4. Fill your day with positivity

The world is filled with negativity and it’s easy to get dragged down by it. Have you ever experienced being in a horrible mood after watching the news and fearing for your life? Not the most productive way to fill yourself with positive thoughts. So, as part of your commitment to get out of a mindset funk, try these high vibe ideas:

  • Unfollowing the people on Instagram that are getting under your skin and find accounts that advocate positivity, community and empowerment.

  • Calling a friend to have a chat about the good things in life.

  • Surrounding yourself with supportive and like-minded people.

  • Watching a motivational video – TED Talks are brilliant for business ideas!

5. Be gentle with yourself

The last step, but certainly not the least, is to be gentle with yourself. The healing process will take time and it’s best to be patient, gentle and nurturing towards your needs. Allow yourself to go on a journey of re-discovery and embrace every emotion that emerges along the way.

Repeat these 5 steps any time you feel yourself in a mindset funk or just when you need to press pause on life and make sure you’re in alignment with your goals. There is absolutely no shame in needing time to figure our your direction so that you and your business can thrive.

You’ve got this. I believe in you.
