Top 5 Places to Unplug with Intention

Maybe you can agree, the creative life gets overwhelming. The lack of creativity is easily instilled by staying sedentary for too long and connected to our screens for hours on end. Then it isn’t long before the concrete jungle and hustle begin to feel bland. Luckily, we’re sharing with you the secret to getting back on that creativity train – it’s to get out of the office, far far away from wifi! So brew yourself a coffee and hit the open roads to discover our top places to unplug with intention.

#1 Sweet, sweet lavender fields

Literally, just the sight and smell of lavender promises to de-stress. This super plant is known for its calming properties and the view of seemingly endless rows of lavender is a guaranteed mood-booster. Spend the day frolicking in the vast sea of purple and enjoy all the lavender-flavoured treats. Even set up a healthy picnic and be intentional with your time in nature.

After all of that good time, be sure to bring home a vial (or two) of lavender essential oils back home to help with restlessness, anxiety, insomnia or all the other potential issues that come with being a creative business owner.

#2 Completely disconnect at the spa

Taking a day at the spa is our faaaaaavourite way to disconnect. The lakes and surrounding forests are an incredible way to be surrounded by nature; it honestly feels amazing to go off the grid with zero wifi. You’ll be able to re-energize and re-invigorate your mind, body and soul.

By dipping into the cold water, you’re improving circulation because the body reacts in pumping blood more efficiently. Then the warm water gives you a break from the effects of gravity. By alternating between hot and cold, you’ll find many therapeutic effects. It’s the perfect way to relax, rejuvenate and recharge. To unplug with intention at the spa, bring a book to read in the lounging beds. (Check out: Best Books to Adopt a Mindset of Success)

#3 Get fresh air in nature

We certainly don’t give fresh air enough credit. It has so many benefits related to your physical and mental states like the reduction of stress, increased energy, immune system boosts, and the easy way to get exercise done. Not only will you be doing yourself a favour by getting away from your screen, but you’ll also have a renewed sense of creativity. A great idea here would be to sit up against a tree and start meditating to clear your head.

#4 Soak in the sun at the beach

The sand, the sun, the water, the shades of blue… there’s no creative block that a day at the beach can’t fix! It’s a combination of spending quality time soaking in the vitamin D (that is synthesized into happy hormones), and feeling cozy as the warm rays hit your skin.

If you don’t live anywhere near a beach, use a visualization technique to transport yourself to the white sandy beaches of The Bahamas. It’ll feel real, we swear.

#5 Plan an overnight getaway

Sometimes one day to reset isn’t enough, so planning an overnight getaway is another solid solution. You don’t even have to go far, but the best is to have a cozy hotel to take a good long bath, binge-watch some Netflix or just to splurge on room service. Bonus points if the hotel is surrounded by nature and has a spa, then you’re really getting the trifecta of unplugging magic. If you’re looking for a more budget friendly option; try an Airbnb accommodation and get $45 off of your first booking.

When’s the last time you were able to unplug with intention? Do you have a favourite way to decompress from the creative biz life?
